1Streetworks is transforming how utility companies plan and deliver essential infrastructure works on the highway. We’re proud to announce that UK Power Networks has become the first utility company globally to adopt 1Streetworks across all teams responsible for connecting the public to mains supply, maintaining the infrastructure and fixing faults (outages) when they occur, marking a major milestone in digital streetworks innovation.
Our solution enables UK Power Networks to generate site-specific, safety-compliant traffic management plans in under two minutes, replacing a manual process that previously took several hours. These plans meet the stringent requirements of highway authorities, streamlining permit approvals and accelerating service delivery. As well as enabling multi-annual programmes containing thousands of works to be planned in hours not months.
In a live trial covering 1,800 roadworks across the Southeast, 1Streetworks demonstrated measurable improvements in operational efficiency, particularly in small connections, disconnections, and highway services. The tool helped reduce road closures, improve turnaround times, and enhance customer satisfaction, while also lowering repeat visits and environmental impact.
A retrospective desktop study of 50 road closure requests showed that 39% could have been avoided using 1Streetworks, with site checks confirming the results. This highlights the tool’s potential to significantly reduce disruption and improve coordination with highway authorities and other utilities.
By rolling out 1Streetworks across its London, the Southeast, and East of England, UK Power Networks is unlocking scalable benefits for customers, employees, and local communities. Once trained, users can simply select a work location on a map, and 1Streetworks will automatically generate traffic layouts that comply with the Red Book code of practice, factoring in bus stops, schools, crossings, speed limits, and more leading to right first-time delivery of works.
The tool is initially expected to support up to 30% of UK Power Networks’ 40,000 annual roadworks, including emergency repairs, small-scale upgrades, and new power connections.
Claire Milverton, CEO of 1Spatial, said:
“This milestone partnership with UK Power Networks showcases the real-world value of 1Streetworks. We’re proud to deliver a solution that drives efficiency, reduces road closures, and improves customer service. We believe this programme can serve as a blueprint for utilities and telecoms providers across the UK and beyond.”
Innovations like 1Streetworks have the potential to significantly reduce disruption on our roads. We welcome UK Power Networks’ leadership and hope other organisations follow suit.

Richard Boissieux, Streetworks Manager at UK Power Networks, added:
“We’re excited to be the first utility to adopt 1Spatial’s automated traffic management tool across all our operations. This innovation will help us to minimise road closures, reduce costs, streamline traffic management permits, and deliver power connections and other works quickly and safely.”
1Streetworks empowers UK Power Networks teams to focus on higher-value tasks, bringing smarter, faster, and safer infrastructure delivery to the forefront of utility operations. This partnership sets a new benchmark for digital transformation in infrastructure planning and is expected to serve as a blueprint for other electricity, gas, water, and telecommunications companies across the UK.
